Working Groups

RDK Working Groups

RDK offers a series of Working Groups, each of which is targeted at a specific feature, component, or offering in the code. RDK members are encouraged to request to participate in a group that aligns with their interests or expertise. Groups are formed and managed with a specific set of goals and expectations, and will be retired once the goals have been met. Working group members are selectively accepted and expected to be active participants in collaborative meetings and to make design or code contributions toward achieving stated goals.

To inquire about participation in a specific group, contact workinggroups@RDKcentral.com.

Remote Management

The Remote Management Working Group collaborates on a standardized protocol for centrally managing, monitoring, upgrading and controlling connected RDK devices. The goal is to establish and ratify a standard, architect provisions for future extensions, and agree upon implementation. Discussion includes a data model, architecture, and communications protocol.

Network WAN/LAN

The Network WAN/LAN Working Group collaborates on architecture and development of different WAN interfaces on RDK-B devices. It focuses on common abstraction for supporting different SoCs, as well as features for different region deployments and access types.

Telemetry

The Telemetry Working Group was created to discuss various ways to improve data collection and optimize processing in the cloud, specific to the use-cases of this group.

WiFi

The WiFi Working Group will define new WiFi features and support, such as WiFi 7 support or a Unified EasyMesh Solution integration.

Test Automation

The Test Automation Working Group, aka Automatics, collaborates on enhancing the features of Automatics and test coverage while standardizing execution, reporting, and output.

Browser

The Browser Working Group will discuss and collaborate on RDK browser development, roadmap discussion, upstreaming patches, continuous integration, and testing. Specific topics include the use of a common set of tools, development, and release for RDK WPEWebkit browser features and versioning.

BB Apps Framework -
coming soon

The BB Apps Framework Working Group collaborates on architecture and development, focusing on common integration (API standardization, etc. for broadband apps of all types. Specific topics include HAL, API calls, end-user interaction, cloud component architecture, containerization, and security.

Platform Management -
coming soon

The Platform Management Working Group will define the Kernel and Yocto upgrade requirements and other generic requirements, including security requirements, secure boot and secure storage, reference platforms, etc.

Latency QoS

The Latency QoS Working Group will define the mechanisms to measure and reduce latency for sensitive traffic flows and and define requirements to configure, manage, and collect telemetry for latency related topics.

Lightning

The Lightning Working Group will collaborate on Lightning 3.0 development status, short-term roadmap & latest features, real-world applications, use-cases & approaches for migration from 2.x to 3.x major revisions. The group will include Engineering SMEs and Product/Strategy teams to help promote a universally applicable use of this technology.
