Kaon Unveils RDK Video Accelerator
New IP-STB enables service providers to quickly test and deploy video applications with RDK platform and Metrological App Store
AMSTERDAM — In advance of the IBC 2019 Conference, KAONMEDIA (KOSDAQ: KAON MEDIA), a world-leading provider in set-top box (STB) and broadband customer premises equipment (CPE), today became the newest member of the RDK Video Accelerator program with the introduction of KAON’s new RDK Video Accelerator set-top box.
KAON’s RDK Video Accelerator is a powerful and elegant reference set-top box that comes pre-integrated with the RDK application framework and the Metrological App Store. It is designed to enable service providers to rapidly develop, test, and launch new video applications while maintaining full control over consumer-facing applications, user experience, and set-top box data.
RDK is an open source software platform for the connected home that standardizes core functions used in broadband, video, and IoT connected devices. It enables service providers to manage their devices; control their business models; and customize their apps, UIs and data analytics to improve the customer experience and drive business results. For video, RDK provides a common method to manage video tuning; conditional access; DRM; stream management; diagnostics; and more.
“Many service providers around the world are looking to RDK as their next-generation software platform, and KAON is committed to having the best possible solutions available to meet that demand,” said CM KIM, Senior CTO of KAON. “We are very pleased to have worked collaboratively with RDK and Metrological to create a set-top box that can instantly have our customers testing in their labs and deploying in the field.”
“KAON is a proven global innovator, and we’re extremely proud to have them join the RDK Video Accelerator program with today’s launch,” said Steve Heeb, President and General Manager of RDK. “Operators seeking to quickly test and launch with RDK software now have an elegantly productized solution from KAON. The combination of the RDK app framework and Metrological App Store running on KAON’s RDK Video Accelerator is precisely the type of solution our community wants.”
KAON’s RDK Video Accelerator is a UHD IP-set top, with built-in Wi-Fi, running on Broadcom’s advanced BCM72604B0 chipset with small memory configuration (128MB Flash + 1GB DDR) and a compact size of just 13.5 cm (W) x 13.5 cm (D) x 2.5 cm (H). Based on specific requirements from service providers, KAON also noted that it plans to offer the RDK Video Accelerator on a choice of chipset platforms running RDK software.
KAON’s RDK Video Accelerator will be on display in KAON Stand located at Hall 1, B16 for the first time at the upcoming IBC Conference in Amsterdam from September 13-17.
