AirTies opens up software to RDK

CSI Magazine – October 18, 2018

AirTies is making managed WiFi mesh solution available for broadband devices running the RDK software platform early next year, with one Tier 1 operator already confirmed.

Turkish WiFi mesh specialist is making its wireless software available to hardware based on the RDK standard. This will allow managed WiFi Mesh software from AirTies to run on certified broadband CPE devices, which typically include set-top boxes and home routers from the likes of Cisco, Arris and Humax among others. With this forthcoming integration, operators using RDK will be able to get access to and benefit from AirTies’ intelligent-steering software, which has already been widely deployed globally by around 50 service providers and 25 million homes.

On the back of the announcement, it was disclosed that an unnamed Tier 1 operator expects to deploy AirTies software on its RDK-based CPEs in the coming year. This means they will use it together with their technology to launch a new solution for a Tier 1 operator. RDK pioneer Comcast already has a mesh connectivity deployment so that would suggest Cox and Charter in the US, as well as Liberty Global in Europe would be the likely candidates among those MSOs who have embraced the RDK kit. The RDK stack remains in favour by the largest service providers even smaller operators globally (more than 100 at last count) find themselves attrite to the Android TV platform.
