Everything You Need to Know About the 2019 RDK Americas Summit

What will you build tomorrow?

Hello, RDK Community colleagues, and FYI that it’s probably time to start thinking about booking travel (and hotels) for the 2019 RDK Americas Summit, which is happening at the new Comcast Technology Center in Philadelphia on March 19. We’ve been hard at it, behind the scenes, to build out a full-day program with a blue-chip roster of speakers and topics, representing the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and beyond. Here’s what you need to know:

Keynote speakers for the event include Fraser Stirling, Senior Vice President of Digital Home, Devices and AI Systems for Comcast; and Joshua Seiden, author of Sense & Respond: How Successful Organizations Listen to Customers and Create New Products Continuously. (With more to come.)

Among those representing the international RDK Community, we’ll hear from Bill Warga, VP of Technology for Liberty Global and 2019 Chairman of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers. As an executive familiar with the RDK from its earliest incarnations, Bill’s observations and experiences are uniquely relevant.

At this year’s Summit, he’ll impart the latest developments with RDK-based products and services throughout Liberty Global’s footprint. Included: Launch updates, best practices when field-upgrading early generation RDK devices, and insights into launching RDK-B in conjunction with DOCSIS 3.1.

RDK Broadband as a Foundation for Whole-Home WiFi: AirTies’ Oz Yildirim and Comcast’s Jon Cave will discuss current events in WiFi, mesh networks, and RDK. Included: Data points and anecdotes about WiFi and mesh deployments worldwide.

Lab Accelerator: Phil Cardy, Regional Vice President EMEA Sales, Consumer Solutions, for ARRIS, will discuss the “Lab Accelerator,” an RDK-based IP set-top box designed to enable the rapid development of apps and app stores. Core to its design goals are overall ease-of-use and swift setup on commercially available hardware.

RDK as Common Platform for AppsMatt Zelesko, Chief Software Officer and SVP of Entertainment Products for Comcast, and Albert Dahan, Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder of Metrological, will discuss how companies are embracing the app developer community, and how RDK is evolving to enable this.

The Power of Data Analytics & Telemetry with RDK: Hear from companies working to apply machine-level data from RDK devices to solve real-world business problems — and proactively optimize the end-user experience. Abel Mathews, Co-founder and CEO of Backtrace I/O, will explain how to understand the “what, when and where” of application crashes; M. Thangarajan, Senior Vice President for Tata Elxsi, will cover how telemetry data derived from set-tops and gateways can proactively prevent network and CPE problems.

RDK 2019 Roadmap: Rob Suero, Technology Planning and Development for RDK Management LLC, and Labeeb Ismail, Senior Vice President, CPE Software at Comcast Cable, will lay out the latest roadmap for the major RDK device profiles. Plus, get a sneak peek of new innovations that Comcast is making available to help with new app onboarding.

RDK and Broadband – DOCSIS, DSL and the PONs: Hear how the RDK can be put to use in multiple access network technologies, including DOCSIS 3.0/3.1, EPON, GPON and DSL. In this session, Charles Cheevers, Chief Technology Officer of Customer Premises Equipment for ARRIS, will discuss how the RDK is primed to flourish on any flavor of broadband connection.

Closing Keynote – Josh Seiden, Author of “Sense & Respond”: Harvard Business Review contributor and author Josh Seiden will expand on his extensive research into successful companies innovating faster and better because of their ability to use software to test new ideas and quickly respond to customers — with commentary on how the RDK community is already on a software fast-track to success.
