Everything You Need to Know About the 2019 RDK Americas Summit

What will you build tomorrow?

Hello, RDK Community colleagues, and FYI that it’s probably time to start thinking about booking travel (and hotels) for the 2019 RDK Americas Summit, which is happening at the new Comcast Technology Center in Philadelphia on March 19. We’ve been hard at it, behind the scenes, to build out a full-day program with a blue-chip roster of speakers and topics, representing the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and beyond. Here’s what you need to know:

Keynote speakers for the event include Tony Werner, President of Technology, Product, Xperience for Comcast; Fraser Stirling, Senior VP of Devices and AI Systems for Comcast; and Joshua Seiden, author of Sense & Respond: How Successful Organizations Listen to Customers and Create New Products Continuously. (With more to come.)

Among those representing the international RDK Community, we’ll hear from Bill Warga, VP of Technology for Liberty Global and 2019 Chairman of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers. As an executive familiar with the RDK from its earliest incarnations, Bill’s observations and experiences are uniquely relevant.

Topics threaded throughout this year’s Summit will cover the expanding portfolio of RDK profiles, from “the original” RDK for Video, to RDK for Broadband, and its sub-categories. Here’s a look at the agenda:

RDK Broadband & Mesh: AirTies’ Oz Yildirim and Comcast’s Jon Cave will discuss how mesh networking works better with RDK for Broadband. Included: Data points and anecdotes about Wi-Fi mesh deployments worldwide.

RDK as Common Platform for Apps: Executives representing Metrological and Comcast will relay the state-of-the-state with the RDK and Apps. Plus: Details on pre-integration platforms and the RDK Lab Accelerator.

Broadband Data Analytics & Telemetry: Hear from several companies utilizing data generated by broadband gateways to solve real-world business problems and proactively optimize the network. Also: Learn about multiple use cases involving RDK-sourced, machine-level data that feed business intelligence and analytics.

RDK 2019 Roadmap: Rob Suero, Technology Planning and Development for RDK Management LLC, and Labeeb Ismail, SVP of Comcast, will lay out the latest roadmap for the major RDK device profiles. Plus, get a sneak peek of new innovations that Comcast is making available to help with new app onboarding.

RDK and Broadband — Life Beyond DOCSIS: RDK for Broadband is expanding beyond the popular and cable-mainstream DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) suite, to EPON, GPON, DSL, and beyond. Charles Cheevers, CTO of Customer Premises Equipment for ARRIS, will cover how the RDK for Broadband profile is primed to flourish on any flavor of broadband connection.

Closing Keynote—”Sense & Respond”: Harvard Business Review contributor and author Josh Seiden will expand on his extensive research into successful companies innovating faster and better because of their ability to use software to test new ideas and quickly respond to their customers– with commentary on how the RDK fits into this paradigm.
