CommScope lands role in Netflix’s RDK device scaling program

CommScope’s upcoming RDK-based VIP73xx streaming devices will be included in Netflix’s newly announced DaVinci scaling partner program.

The scaling program will let CommScope make it easier to integrate and quickly launch Netflix services on devices running RDK open-source software. The companies said the program’s goal is to both improve a service provider’s ability to offer more enhanced viewing options and make Netflix more accessible to subscribers globally.

In addition to DaVinci, CommScope also has streaming solutions involved with Netflix’s Hailstorm program, a similar scaling program for Android TV devices.

“CommScope’s Home Networks business welcomes Netflix’s new DaVinci scaling program because it delivers additional value to our customers,” said Joe Chow, senior vice president of home networks at CommScope, in a statement. “We are delighted to be part of this program at its inception, because it enables us to provide operators with an RDK streaming solution fully integrated with Netflix and other OTT solutions with improved time to market and reduced integration complexity.”

CommScope’s VIP73xx RDK streaming devices are expected to launch in 2022 and the company said they will provide access to “many popular streaming services.” The streamers will have remote management protocols and can be managed by CommScope’s ECO Service Management solutions so service providers can automate and improve subscriber’s devices and experiences.

Earlier this year RDK Management said that more than 80 million RDK devices have now been deployed worldwide.

“Over this past year, our community developed new ways to enhance their video businesses with the rollouts of RDK4, Lightning™ App language, and RDK Video Accelerator set-top boxes. On the broadband side, RDK software now spans across DOCSIS, DSL, and GPON gateways, which is particularly beneficial to service providers operating a mix of transport networks within their footprints. We’re also excited about delivering a variety of new support services, training, testing tools, and recruiting resources to enable the RDK community to more easily scale with the RDK,” said Jason Briggs, executive director of RDK, in a statement.
