Tele Columbus, Germany’s third largest cable operator, commercially deployed its next-generation TV platform across its footprint on January 16, giving consumers in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and elsewhere what it claims is an unmatched user experience for the country. The service, called ‘advanceTV’, includes multiscreen TV, 4K and live TV, VOD, DVR, subscription VOD and Web apps, all with unified search. Tele Columbus designed and delivered the service, which is built on Espial’s RDK, multiscreen and cloud back-office solutions. Specifically, it uses the Espial Media Service Platform, the Espial G4 set-top box software and Espial multiscreen client. Espial Elite professional services provided the systems integration.
The new service has a hybrid cable/IP set-top box and makes use of the full unicast DVB-C support in RDK. OTT services and apps are integrated fully into the platform with subscription VOD as well as traditional Pay VOD available to consumers. The integrated OTT app experience uses the Metrological Application Platform. This includes a wide selection of premium apps that Tele Columbus can source from and publish in its app store in real-time. The Metrological platform includes full lifecycle support for TV app stores and content.
