RDK Community Updates – Exiting Adolescence, RDK-B Now Ready to Contribute to the Grown-up Service Provider World

MSP Featured Member

We have seen RDK-B born and successfully pass through childhood and adolescence, with Service Providers launching it on millions of devices to great success. ARRIS has been there throughout this journey with our TG1682 (Comcast XB3) as well as through code contributions.

Now that RDK-B has passed into adulthood and is maturing rapidly, the next journey begins for the Service Provider community’s next set of IP services. Presently, there is a great deal of activity amongst Service Providers looking at RDK-B’s features and roadmap to decide how best to leverage this new-found maturity.

Most Service Providers agree that the inflection point to change to RDK-B is to move there in conjunction with their DOCSIS 3.1 rollouts. ARRIS DOCSIS 3.1 Gateways and Cable Modems, like the TG3482 and CM8200, are platforms that can enable this change. The main discussion point is the distinctions between existing operators’ Gateway stacks and RDK-B.

In many cases, there is either a similar feature in RDK-B or a roadmap item that solves the issue. In those cases where the Service Provider is missing an element in RDK-B or their roadmap, ARRIS is working on offering Service Providers a solution that will allow them to take advantage of the new RDK-B features supporting IP Video, IoT and Wi-Fi management – all of which are key to their ability to offer future services. ARRIS is also supporting RDK-B features through new solutions in its Cloud platforms with support for Multicast from the ARRIS Multicast Server platform and the addition of protocol support for RDK-B within our ECO and IoT platforms.

Come talk to ARRIS at booth #1214 at INTX about the maturing of RDK-B and how ARRIS CPE and Cloud products can help you transition to leverage RDK-B services using ARRIS Gateways, STBs, Wi-Fi and IoT Extenders, and our Assurance platforms. Ask for a demonstration of the ARRIS TG3482, our new generation of DOCSIS 3.1 Gateway offering a new level of Wi-Fi performance as well as support for low power IoT devices……all on an RDK-B platform.
